Reader’s Question:

I am 22 years old and I am new to auto insurance. I just would like to know where I could get the cheapest van insurance here in South Dakota.

Radcliff

Sioux Falls, SD

Vans are among the vehicles that are cheapest to insure. For van insuranceone, road accidents involving vans are rare compared with other vehicles. But it is still possible to make you auto insurance premium when you do your purchase. The easiest way to get the cheapest van insurance in your state is by comparing the offers of several companies. There are numerous insurance carriers in South Dakota. Take the time to do some search engine work and find out what the companies in your state can offer you. Compare their premium rates in relation to the coverage they offer respectively. Also, try to look for insurance packages. These packages offer several types of coverage that are cheaper than purchasing them individually.

Do you have any other vehicle that you want to insure? Let us say a sedan or even a motorcycle? If so, you can insure them in the same carrier together with your van to get some cut offs. Companies offer discounts to multiple policies. You can save more than a hundred bucks if you avail more than one policy. If you like the company that insures your family’s house, then you might as well choose them for your auto insurance. This is another way getting a multiple policy. With this, you are just a few steps away from getting the cheapest van insurance.

Insurance carriers in South Dakota send agents to personally inspect your car. They will take note of its conditions and safety features. If your van needs some repairs, better get it done before the insurance guy inspects your car. Also, if you are planning to buy anti-theft features, install them now.
It is easy to find the cheapest van insurance without having to go far as long as you find out more on how carriers determine your premium.

Military Auto Insurance in South Dakota

Reader’s Question:

I am 19-year-old resident of South Dakota contemplating military service. Should I cancel my present auto insurance if ever I get accepted in the military? I would probably store the car somewhere and get insurance when I come back.

Kevin

Rapid City, SD

Kevin, even if you won’t use your vehicle you are still required by law to renew the registration for your car annually (in most cases, this is usually the month of your birth). It would just be a bad decision to just keep your car somewhere and hope nothing happens to it. What if a natural disaster occurs in your area and by sheer bad luck causes damage your car? Another disadvantage is that a delay or lapse in insurance coverage will make an auto insurance company refrain from giving you insurance when you return from your tour of duty. So, canceling your present auto insurance without replacing it is not advisable. There are alternative ways to deal with this.

Many auto insurance companies don’t take into account the complexities of a client being deployed in the military, but fortunately some do. If budget is your primary motivation to take this course of action, there are companies which deal with military personnel all the time and will provide you tips on how to save some cash when you’re away. Discounts are usually given to those who work in the military. Patriotism, this is. Some auto insurance companies also try to maintain lower rates near military bases.

Buying Teen Car Insurance

Reader’s Question:

My teenage daughter just got her student license here in South Dakota, and did okay in her driving classes at school. Now, she wants to drive our car! Do I need to get separate car insurance for her?

Kate

Sioux Falls, SD

Hi, Kate, they grow up so fast don’t they? My suggestion to you would be to get on the phone with your car insurance agent in South Dakota and ask him about the specifics of your policy. For most car insurance providers, your daughter should automatically be covered under your car insurance policy. Since you have insured the vehicle, anyone who drives that vehicle should automatically be covered.

However, each car insurance company differs in their rules and specifications. Some will require you to have your daughter listed down under your policy as well to ensure her coverage. You need not get a separate policy for her since she doesn’t have her own car yet and she only has a learner’s permit and not a full fledged driver’s license.

Did you know that teenage accidents occur more than accidents involving adults? Not that I’m trying to scare you, but this may be a good time to review your car insurance policy and determine whether you have enough coverage. Take into account the costs you may have to pay for out of your own pocket should an accident happen. Most states only require liability insurance coverage, so if this is all you got, maybe you’d like to add some comprehensive insurance or collision damage insurance, as well.
